Câu đảo ngữ Inversion trong tiếng Anh là việc đưa phó từ trạng từ và trợ động từ trong câu lên đứng đầu, trước chủ ngữ nhằm nhấn mạnh một sự việc hay một chủ thể nào đó trong câu. Cấu trúc câu đảo ngữ có thể xuất hiện ở văn nói thường ngày và cả ở văn viết trang trọng. Ví dụ I met her only once. → Only once did I meet her. Tôi chỉ gặp cô ấy có 1 lần thôi. Trong câu trên, sau khi đảo “only once” lên đầu câu, vì hành động “met” ở dạng quá khứ nên ta sử dụng trợ động từ did và động từ “meet” được trả về nguyên mẫu. Cấu trúc câu đảo ngữ Inversion Phó từ chỉ cách thức, thời gian + trợ động từ + S + V … Ví dụ They play the yo-yo skillfully. → Skillfully do they play the yo-yo. Họ chơi yoyo thật điêu luyện. ⇒ Động từ “plays” ở thì hiện tại đơn. Khi chuyển sang cấu trúc câu đảo ngữ thì trạng từ “skillfully” và trợ động từ “does” được chuyển lên đầu câu. ⇒ Động từ chính trả về nguyên mẫu “play”. Khi chuyển sang cấu trúc câu đảo ngữ thì trạng từ “skillfully” và trợ động từ “does” được chuyển lên đầu câu. ⇒ Động từ chính trả về nguyên mẫu “complain”. Phó từ chỉ nơi chốn + V + S … Ví dụ The Korean restaurant is at the street corner. → At the street corner is the Korean restaurant. Mùa thu đã tới đây. ∗ Lưu ý – Câu ở thì nào thì trợ động từ khi đảo ngữ sẽ tương ứng với thì đó. – Khi đã có trợ động từ rồi thì động từ ở dạng nguyên mẫu. – Ngoài ra có một vài dạng câu đảo ngữ không theo cấu trúc trên. Cấu trúc câu đảo ngữ với “No”/ “Not any” No/Not any + N + trợ động từ + S + V … Ví dụ I won’t buy any expensive shoes for you. → No expensive shoes will I buy for you. → Not any expensive shoes will I buy for you. Tôi sẽ không mua cho bạn đôi giày đắt tiền nào nữa. I shall not lend you any books from now on. → No books shall I lend you from now on. → Not any books shall I lend you from now on. Từ bây giờ tôi sẽ không cho bạn mượn bất cứ quyển sách nào nữa. Cấu trúc câu đảo ngữ với các cụm từ phủ định “No” Cụm từ phủ định + trợ động từ + S + V … – At no time chưa từng bao giờ. – In no way không còn cách nào. – On no condition tuyệt đối không. – On no account = For no reasons không vì bất cứ lý do gì. – Under/ In no circumstances trong bất cứ hoàn cảnh nào cũng không. – No longer không còn nữa – No where không một nơi nào Ví dụ You shouldn’t leave this building. → Under no case should you leave this building. Trong bất cứ trường hợp nào bạn cũng không nên rời khỏi tòa nhà này. He doesn’t live in my neighborhood. → No longer does he live in my neighborhood. Cấu trúc câu đảo ngữ với “Such…that” và “so…that” Such + tính từ + N + that + S + V … So + tính từ/ trạng từ + trợ động từ + N + that + S + V … Ví dụ I have seen this interesting movie 3 times. → Such an interesting movie that I have seen it 3 times → So interesting is this movie that I have seen it 3 times. Bộ phim hay đến nỗi tôi đã xem nó 3 lần. She is so busy that she doesn’t have time to look after herself. → Such a busy girl that she doesn’t have time to look after herself. → So busy is she that doesn’t have time to look after herself. Quá bận rộn đến mức cô ấy không còn đủ thời gian để chăm sóc cho bản thân mình. 5. Cấu trúc câu đảo ngữ với “not only…but also” Not only + trợ động từ + S + V, but + S + also + V … Không chỉ … mà còn … Ví dụ He speak English very well. He can also speak Vietnamese fluently. → Not only does he speak English very well, but he also can speak Vietnamese fluently. Anh ấy không chỉ nói tiếng Anh rất tốt mà còn nói thông thạo tiếng Việt. 6. Cấu trúc câu đảo ngữ với “until”/ “till” Not until/ till + S+V time + trợ động từ + S + V … Cho đến khi … thì mới … Ví dụ It was not 12PM that she finished her report → Not until 12PM did she finish her report. Đến 12h cô ấy mới hoàn thành xong báo cáo. It was not I became a mother that I knew how my mother loved me. → Not until did I become a mother that I knew how my mother loved me. Mãi cho đến khi tôi làm mẹ tôi mới biết mẹ yêu tôi đến nhường nào. 7. Cấu trúc câu đảo ngữ với “Only” ONLY AFTER + N / V-ing / S +V + trợ động từ + S + V … Chỉ sau khi … Ví dụ They can only go to the cinema after dinner. → Only after dinner can they go to the cinema. Chỉ sau bữa tối thì họ mới có thể đi đến rạp phim. He can only play video game after finishing his exercise. → Only after finishing his exercise does he play video game. Chỉ sau khi hoàn thành bài tập anh ấy mới chơi game. ONLY BY + N / V-ing + trợ động từ + S + V … Chỉ bằng cách … Ví dụ Students can only pass the final exam when they study harder. → Only by studying harder can students pass the final exam. Chỉ bằng cách học chăm hơn thì học sinh mới có thể vượt qua kì thi cuối kì. ONLY IF + S +V + trợ động từ + S + V … Chỉ khi, nếu … Ví dụ Children play outside if it doesn’t rain. → Only if it doesn’t rain can children play outside. Chỉ khi trời không mưa, lũ trẻ mới được chơi ngoài trời. He could attend the concert with his friend if he was not sick. → Only if he was not sick, could he attend the concert with his friend. ONLY WHEN + S +V + trợ động từ + S + V … Chỉ đến khi … Ví dụ Only when everything is prepared carefully will my boss come in. Chỉ đến khi mọi thứ được chuẩn bị cẩn thận thì sếp tôi mới bước vào. Cấu trúc câu đảo ngữ với câu điều kiện – Câu điều kiện loại 1 Should + S + V, S + will/ should/ may/ shall + V … Ví dụ If I stay, I won’t get any benefits. → Should I stay, I won’t get any benefits. Nếu tôi ở lại, tôi chả có lợi gì. – Câu điều kiện loại 2 Were S + to V, S + would/ could/ might + V … Were S …, S + would/ could/ might + V … Ví dụ If I were you, I would change my phone number. → Were I you, I would change my phone number. Nếu tôi ở lại, tôi sẽ đổi số điện thoại của mình If I had money, I would buy that car. → Were I to have money, I would buy that car. Nếu tôi có tiền thì tôi đã mua chiếc ô tô đó. – Câu điều kiện loại 3 Had + S + V3/Ved, S +would/should/might + have +V3/Ved … Ví dụ If she hadn’t eaten this cake, she wouldn’t have had stomachache. → Had she not eaten this cake, she wouldn’t have had stomachache. Nếu cô ấy không ăn chiếc bánh ấy thì cô ấy sẽ không bị đau bụng. If he had scored the goal, his team would have won the match. → Had he scored the goal, his team would have won the match. Ngay sau khi anh ấy đến thì cô ấy rời đi. 10. Hình thức câu đảo ngữ với “now”, “thus”, “then”, “here”, “there” – Chỉ được đảo ngữ khi chủ ngữ là danh từ, không hoán chuyển khi chủ ngữ là đại từ. Hình thức câu đảo ngữ nhấn mạnh tính từ Trong tiếng Anh có thể đảo tính từ, cụm tính ngữ làm bổ ngữ của “to be” ra trước để nhấn mạnh, đồng thời đảo “to be” ra trước chủ ngữ.
